Expedition to the last of remaining San people in Namibia


Next year, Greenhouse will journey from Windhoek to the remote regions of Namibia to spend time with one of Southern Africa's oldest living cultures - the San people.

This exchange will be built on respect, listening, and shared creativity.

For seven days we live alongside the community, preparing meals together over the fire, sharing stories, laughter, music, and everyday life. Together we create simple musical instruments from natural materials while cooking traditional potjie over an open fire. Every instrument made during the gathering remains with the community as a gift, contributing to future celebrations, teaching, and artistic expression.

Our role is to learn about San worldview through participation. We believe that meaningful conservation begins with relationships between people, cultures, and with the landscapes that have sustained communities for thousands of years.

Your guide's Master's dissertation was devoted to indigenous recognition in post-apartheid South Africa. Nadia Ring studied in depth indigenous philosophies as a part of her Masters in the Study of Religions, the University of Cape Town (UCT).

"I witnessed how interaction between visitors and indigenous folks often was severely compromised, without the account of impact of certain Western attitudes onto indigenous communities. I believe that ethical interaction has to be a co-creative one, when we co-create a shared spaces where we can explore different aspects of belonging, wisdom, somatic expression together, on par. The separation between performer and observer is a very Western construct. When we approach indigenous people, we should be aware of not to impose on them the expectations of the Western culture."

The mission of our expedition to Namibia


The expedition offers participants an opportunity to experience life beyond modern consumption, hierarchical constructs, and oppression and witness Indigenous knowledge, relational literacy, shared leadership and deep interconnectedness of San people with the living environment.

Somatically, on the level of your nervous system, you will be inspired to reconnect with the authentic expressions of humankind, the ones that are based on reciprocity, gratitude, shared joy and Earth stewardship.

Funds generated through this programme help support Greenhouse's environmental and cultural initiatives while creating opportunities for continued collaboration with Indigenous communities in Southern Africa.

Together we share food, we make music, we dance and honour the cultures that continue to remind us how to live in relationship with the Earth.
