The idea of creating the 'Martian' cycle dates back to the writer's childhood years. As Bradbury himself recalls in one of his interviews: 'At twelve, I couldn't afford to buy the continuation of 'The Martian Warrior' by Edgar Burroughs, as we were a poor family... and then I wrote my own version.'
'From early childhood, I absorbed stories about various adventures in the Wild West, which were told to me by my father and grandfather. The events of some of them took place at the beginning of the century, when this land was much more empty, abandoned, and lonely.
